I Got My Hair Did! AndOtherFunThings...

Hey Bloggy!
So, today I got my hair done, as you can tell from the title.  I like it. It's the first time that I've gotten it all dyed and I have to say - it probably won't be the last.
Once I got home from the stylist woman I was suddenly stricken with the urge to take photos of myself.  No, I'm not THAT vain. I don't think this song is about me.   I took my Holga and my digital out for a little spin...added in a date with Picnik...and voila! New pictures for Facebook.  I know what you're thinking, she's aweso...lame. Yeah, I thought that too.
So - let's get up to speed with my life, shall we?
I went to Prom, that was fun.
I was in a pageant and won, also fun.
Effects of said pageant were me "featured" in a parade - I love people watching so being on a float was the perfect vantage point to majorly stare...although I had to look classy and wave while I did it.
I decided on a college, good for me.
I am trying to find a job, fo real.
I went to Chipotle yesterday, changed.my.life.
To sum it all up...

I'm BORED!

So, my summer has officially begun, and...I'M BORED. I haven't even graduated yet, and already I'm so bored! And in reality, I know I won't be bored alllllllll summer, but for right now...I am...SO BORED. This is probably the reason why I am writing a new post. I'm so used to having almost every moment filled with something, anything, that occupies my time that this is just a very new adjustment.  And futhermore, now that it's official - I'm no longer welcome back to high school - I have a feeling that without my normal high school summer activities, these posts may come more often than they have been. Which is not a bad thing, as I really have been neglecting you, Bloggy.  I named my blog Bloggy...isn't that cute?
Soooooo what to do, what to do.....what to do....whaaa-aaattt to do? I'm annoying myself just writing this.  And it doesn't really help that a lot of things to...well...do are costly, and I don't have a job asofnow.  (That's something I'm working on).  So it's not like I really want to drop the big bucks going to the mall (which is 45 minutes away) and, oh yeah, spend money on gas for the trip there and back.

My life be like..."oh".

So, if there is a summer god like all of the little kid shows have told me there is over the years (I'm making that up) then please, please give me some sort of sign that tells me what I should do tonight.

The Sun is Burning a Hole Through My Pocket! Wait...What?

I've recently watched the movie Easy A over the weekend, and while it was a very funny movie, one particular scene stuck with me as it provoked not only thought, but also curiosity.  The scene was played within the first fifteen or so minutes of the movie, and it was centered around the main character, played by Emma Stone, who receives a singing card from her aunt.  The card played the "popular" song, Pocket Full of Sunshine by Natasha Beddingfield.  Once the very first chords were played, Stone shut the card fast and proclaimed, "Worst song, ever."  This got me thinking about that song and why she would think it was the "worst, ever".
While I've never actually had a liking for Natasha Beddingfield music, I've never thought of a particular song of hers to be over-the-top horrible...but that's due to the fact that I've never thought about her music.  I judge songs based not only on their instrumental beats, but also on their lyrics...the more genuine the lyrics, the better the song and so on.  So I looked up the lyrics to Pocket Full of Sunshine...and this is what I found:

I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine
I got a love and I know that it's all mine, oh, oh oh oh
Do what you want but you're never gonna break me
Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me, oh, oh oh oh

Take me away, a secret place
A sweet escape, take me away
Take me away to better days
Take me away, a hiding place

(My personal favorite stanza in the song)
There's a place that I go that nobody knows
Where the rivers flow and I call it home
And there's no more lies in the darkness there's light
And nobody cries, there's only butterflies

Now, what exactly was Natasha thinking as she either wrote these lyrics or agreed to sing them?  These have to be some of the corniest, non-thought provoking lyrics that I've ever heard/read.  The last stanza is my personal favorite as she suddenly turns from poppy tween crooner to hippy fairy child with the lines, "Where the rivers flow and I call it home" and "And nobody cries, there's only butterflies".  Her reference to butterflies seems like more of a need for a word that rhymes with "cries" than an attempt to actually make the stanza mean something.
And honestly, a "pocket full of sunshine"...what does that mean!?  I get metaphors and allusions and references and symbolism, but that? That is nothing! I don't think there is any deeper meaning to "pocket full of sunshine" than her wanting to pocket...I don't know...happiness? What a weird way to say "I love to be happy".  But hey, to each her own.

Skills

All versions of Diana depict her as a masterful athlete, acrobat, fighter and strategist, trained and experienced in many ancient and modern forms of armed and unarmed combat, including exclusively Amazonian martial arts. In some versions, her mother trained her, as Wonder Girl, for a future career as Wonder Woman. From the beginning, she is portrayed as highly skilled in using her Amazon bracelets to stop bullets and in wielding her golden lasso. She is a superior warrior who has beaten Batman, Big Barda, and Black Canary in sparring matches. The modern version of the character differs from her compatriots in that she is willing to use deadly force when she deems it necessary.

Sir Kevin Bacon

That's right.  Kevin Bacon with bacon.
Yesterday, my English teacher asked the class to read essays by Sir Francis Bacon.  This naturally got me thinking about Kevin Bacon, and immediately the melody of "Footloose" floated through my mind.  I personally don't eat the food bacon, but I have come to find that America LOVES bacon...any kind of bacon! Whether you are a scholar and eat up the works of Francis, an avid movie buff who craves Kevin, or just the average pork enthusiast, it seems that everyone loves their bacon.  We can take that one kid from Wife Swap for example.  (He falls under the 'pork enthusiast' category).  This kid freaked out when his "new mom" cleared out the fridge of anything deemed unhealthy, including his precious bacon.  The kid went nuts, exclaiming, "I want my bacon! I got to tell you something, bacon is good for me. She thinks out of the blue she's a smart little girl that she can do whatever she wants. No, that's not how she can do it in our family."  Pretty compelling words.
And who can resist the swauve moves of one Kevin Bacon?  This man made strides in a small town where dance was forbidden.  What else can this modern-day Superman do?  Answer: everything.  Cause he's Kevin Bacon.
So my friends, bacon and Bacon are very important parts of society that should never be underestimated or degraded.

Oh, and that Francis guy?  Yeah, don't degrade him either. Cool.

Hey, Katie! This is for you!

I was on the phone with my best friend, Katie today and it came to my attention that I have not posted in awhile. (What!? I haven't posted in awhile? Sheer lunacy! The audacity of it all!) Dramatic? Perhaps.
So this post is dedicated to YOU, KATIE. Enjoy.
I looked up the name, Katie, on urbandictionary.com.  Fascinating site, by the way.  What I found was, "Katie: A happy person who is a good listener and a reliable friend.  Likes to party and is always there when you need her.  'Call Katie, she'll go out.'" <---I'm not sure if the last part was needed, but I included it anyway.  This definition is so true.  She is all of that AND has a really big computer! Talk about accomplishments.
I hope you all have a Katie in your life.  Without mine, I wouldn't have as many smiles or as much laughter...that is for sure!
(P.S. while I have been typing this entire message, my mother has been singing off key in the other room to American Idol...meh)
Buy Katie mugs, t-shirts, and magnets.  You'll regret it if you don't!

She likes ice cream.  Look at how happy her face is when she gets some. So happy!

This is us...on a regular basis.
